Modernize Hawaii's Historic Public Funding Option For Elections
Money in politics continues to be at the crux of so many problems in Hawaii. It is difficult for legislators to make the bold decisions we need to move towards a sustainable economy, healthy environment, and efficient government when very often it is campaign funders who have the most "free speech".
Hawaii created a historic public funding option for elections in 1978. Now, that program is outdated and needs modernization. By paying for elections with lots of small-dollar donors, instead of a few big-dollar donors, we can bring the political process back to the majority of people whom it's meant to serve.
